Before founding UROsphere, Dr Lluel spent over 11 years in the pharmaceutical industry. He has extensive experience in drug discovery in the field of urology (mainly BPH, urinary incontinence, overactive bladder and aging). He was involved in all aspects of drug development from discovery through registration.
Dr Lluel received his Ph.D. in Pharmacology from Pierre et Marie Curie University (Paris, France) and his Master's degree in Biology and Pharmacology of Ageing from Marne la Vallée University (France).
CSO, co-founder
Before co-founding UROsphere, Dr Palea spent 15 years in R&D in big pharma. He was a Senior Manager at Sanofi-Aventis were he led several pre-clinical research projects targeting BPH, urinary incontinence and sexual dysfunction. Prior to joining Sanofi-Aventis, he was a Research Scientist at Glaxo-Wellcome, where he led the in vitro screening effort to identify novel receptors for treating lower urinary tract pathologies.
Dr Palea received his Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technologies from Pavia University (Italy) and a Master in Experimental Pharmacology and Toxicology from Mario Negri Institute for Pharmacological Research, Milan University (Italy). He is long standing member of the New York Academy of Science, the British Pharmacological Society and the Italian Pharmacological Society.
North American representative
Dr Westfall has over 10 years of pharmaceutical industry experience in the preclinical and early clinical development of compounds for urological disorders. Previously he worked for GlaxoSmithKline where he was involved with various urogenital projects including overactive bladder, BPH, erectile dysfunction and preterm labor.
Dr Westfall has a Ph.D. in pharmacology from the University of Strathclyde (Glasgow, U.K.) where his research focused on autonomic neurotransmission and smooth muscle function with an emphasis on urogenital tissues.
The scientific team is comprised of highly qualified and multi-disciplinary staff made up of Ph.D. scientists (50%) and lab technicians (30%). All members of the team have previous experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
