URETHRAL PRESSURE MEASUREMENTS

A MODEL FOR STRESS OR MIXED URINARY INCONTINENCE

MODEL

Measurement of urethral pressure in anesthetized animals.

SPECIES

Rat, guinea-pig

INTEREST

  • This model is suitable for testing compounds for effects on urethral pressure.
  • Compounds that produce effects on this experimental model include α1-adrenoceptor agonists and monoamine reuptake inhibitors.

MODEL DESCRIPTION

Urethral pressure measurements 1
  • The urethra is catheterized via the bladder base and continuously perfused with saline solution.
  • Test compounds can be administered via various routes (i.v., p.o., i.g., s.c. or i.p.) and urethral pressure monitored up to two hours post-administration.

PARAMETER EVALUATED

  • Urethral pressure
  • Arterial blood pressure (on request)
